Sheila was cheated by her daughter out of a very large amount of money that she had saved for old age. It wasn’t surprising that Sheila was very shocked. She had never expected that her daughter could be so mean to her own mother; as a mother, she had always supported her, especially in difficult times – so she expected her daughter would be just as honest and supportive.
In our conversation Sheila discovered that the beliefs she held didn’t match reality in any way, on the contrary: The daughter’s behaviour was utterly dishonest.
The Logosynthesis approach: Sheila retrieved her energy bound up in the representation of her daughter as a honest person. The result was the abrupt insight that sh*t happens. That didn’t bring back the money, but it helped Sheila to develop an adult strategy to reach that goal.
